New York, NY – Throughout his career, Bow Wow has done many things from breaking into the rap game at a very young age and then shortly after into the film industry. However, he feels as though he doesn’t have the respect that he deserves from the amount of years he’s put into the game, hence his latest studio album is entitled ‘Underrated.’
Now signed to Cash Money, Bow Wow hopes to reinvent himself as an artist under the wings of Wayne and Birdman. Up to the point where his latest single entitled ‘Sweat’ has the feature of his labelmate Wayne with the production from Detail just to prove his place. Interestingly enough, that song and feature that was released on October 13 almost didn’t happen.
MTV News recently caught up with the man behind the production, Detail, to discuss that song in question and how it came about.
These were his comments:
“Obviously everybody knows I got a very diverse sound -- I can do pop, I can do rock, I can do hip-hop, R&B," the very confident "How to Love" beatmaker told Mixtape Daily. "For me it's just a matter of studying the artist and kinda coming up with a formula that's more natural for them.”
According to MTV News, for the song ‘Sweat,’ Detail laid a slow-rolling, pulsating pop track for Bow Wow, who often seems to struggle with getting fans to focus on the face that he is now grown and not a little boy anymore. Bow sings in Auto-Tune over the track, creating an aura of sexual seduction with his explicit lyrics. Wayne of course adds his unique brand of flirtatious, double-timed raps into the mix.
However, even with a potentially hit track, Detail told Mixtape Daily that the collaboration almost didn't happen the way it was suppose to go down. Wayne and Bow Wow had already cut a record together, and Young Money president Mack Maine wasn’t keen on making a second track. Apparently, that all changed the beat was sent to Maine after the two talked at the album release party for ‘Tha Carter IV’ in Los Angeles.
“At Lil Wayne's Carter IV release party, I was talking to [Maine] about the 'Sweat' record. He hadn't even heard [it]. He was like, '[Wayne] already got a record with Bow Wow.”
After listening to beat and gaining the approval from Maine, the project was greenlit for the go ahead on the track.
"He hit me back and said, 'Damn that bitch is a beast,' " Detail said. "So when he said that, I knew off the top that this motherfucker gonna go."
At press time, Bow Wow’s seventh studio album ‘Underrated’ has been scheduled for a December 6 release through Cash Money Records and Universal Republic.

No matter how old Bow Wow gets, he’ll always be typecast as that little kid when he first came out. It’s understandable that many artists receive acclaim from the features of Lil Wayne; I’m just not sure if that goes the same for Bow Wow.
